He married her. I don't know the details but it sounds a little different. Did Lane lie under oath? Did he attempt to instruct potential witnesses to lie? Would he have kept his job if it was determined he was getting BJ's from a young intern while on the phone conducting business, etc.? We don't know but I believe the minimum would have been great reputation dilution and at worst, loss of job.
And, further, I believe if Lane should have had to testify, under oath , and would have lied he would have suffered consequences in the criminal justice system. Look at the lady basketball coach who lied about going to a gay bar. She was convicted and sentenced for that lie.
