Brookelise:<<Semiconductor orders will not snap back, analyst said:>.
biz.yahoo.com >>

Brookelise, that link you posted is dated 11/19/98. The analyst quoted is Theodore O'Neill of Needham. The very next day, 11/20/98, Needham upgraded AMAT to a buy. Last week I posted an article that also quoted O'Neill. In it he has increased his earnings expectations for 2000 from $1.84 to $2.71. He has also increased his 1999 expectations and has specifically named AMAT as a buy.
Can you imagine what he would say if he did think semi orders would snap back? Jeff

Brookelise - the problem with that report is summed up in the following quote

''It'll take four consecutive quarters of 33% growth in orders just to get us back to where we were in September 1997 in terms of level of business,'' O'Neill added.

So far orders have actually increased at 30% per month. It is snapping back, and will probably continue for at least a little while more. When he made that statement he obviously considered that impossible, but now, one month later, we are two quarters into his recovery.
