Charles, does the valuation of internet stocks seem reasonable to you? Why does a high market capitalization of MSFT, an internet stock to some extent, seem unrealistic. In a normal market, you have a point but not in this environment.

Charles ref the "Does that really seem reasonable to you?" on ed's take of the price of MSFT in 2001.

I think ed is right on target. MSFT in the next year to year and a half is about to begin a new upgrade cycle that will serve to power the entire computer industry. When NT5/Win2000 and the new Office suite and back office suite and others hit the market, look for the growth rate not to be 30% but to spike somewhere between 50-65% top line earnings growth. By the way, your post didn't even consider internet related profits.

Regards

Nothing is reasonable or unreasonable. It all depends on what people think the fair
value of MSFT should be at that time. The PE can be 40 , it can also be 200, it all depends on the sentiment at that time. Do you think AMZN's price can be justified ?
Well, that is the price people think it should be Can you justify the price of CPQ with last quarter's earning of 2 cent ? It is all sentiment.
