You laugh, I saw a guy get a margin call today because he was fooling with UBID and forgot he was not on margin! You know why the MMs are changing the margin requirements, right? If you are a MM and you get 2000 orders over the Internet to buy some stock, and you don't own it long, you have to short the stock to cover the buy orders. The MMs don't like that concept. At all.

I must say that I take issue with your assessment our ability to raise margin money.While Gold has not exactly skyrocketed in the past few decades, it is still worth $300+/- an ounce. Thus, even at 100% margin, I can short a boatload of say, Amazombie, since I have a considerable amount of gold.
