Greg,

I respectfully disagree. I had a discussion with Michelle and Rudedog on this issue last week so I will not repeat the arguments but if you are interested you may look it up.

In any case, DELL doesn't sell to the masses; in fact, I feel that avoiding that market and focussing on the high-end (within the Wintel domain) business sector has traditionally been one of DELL's biggest sources of strength. This in fact is one of the main reasons that I invested in DELL. I posit that if NT5 continues in the glorious NT tradition of failing to scale well DELL may well be tempted to move more actively towards licensing and using Solaris instead (i.e. moving towards higher end). I hasten to add that IMO the possibility of that actually happenning is less than remote.

Finally, SQL (DBMS S/W, that is) is in no threat from DELL AFAIK, no more than WinNT OS S/W in any case. DELL is in a very different business.

PS: SUNW and ORCL are IMHO fine companies with excellent technology and opportunities and have been fine investments for me with approx. triple digit yearly gains on equity (less than DELL, however). I like to diversify instead of concentrating on picking winners. Strictly a personal preference.
