Brand yourself a Libertarian (socially liberal and fiscally conservative) and people will consider you eclectic but not threatening to their belief system. You can attend any party with impunity, although, perhaps a little condescension.

Northern Fairfax County tends to be very conservative (esp. the towns comprising the Langley and Mclean School systems)

Merry Christmas

<Interesting thing is that I have a different view of the 60s than is portrayed today. Sure it was a period of turmoil and upheaval but it was also a period when the youth of America had a social conscience>

I'm there with that.

I recall colleges closing because of strikes against the war. I recall riots in Newark and going back to my school, where the Abbey housed National Guard troops, and seeing bullet holes in the walls of the buildings around us. I recall friends leaving for 'Nam and not coming back or perhaps coming back in such a fashion that you wondered if it was good that they did make it back.

I also remember the 1950's, the Eisenhower Coffee Break, where America was happy and people left their doors unlocked across the nation. The sixties pitted people against each other on an ideological basis. It was unheard of to challenge authority.

I remember black guys trying to jump me because I was a white guy in Newark or East Orange, I remember white guys trying to jump me because I had long hair. I recall a lot of prejudice along with the change in ideology. I recall a black friend slipping me a drug intended to kill me and leaving me for dead in a cemetery, just to impress his black friends. I awoke in the hospital some time later, I don't even recall how much later.

I know a guy who came back from Asia and as far as I know to this day he still jumps under a table if he hears a siren.

I recall teachers in college who tried to flunk us out simply because they thought people with long hair were a detriment to Society and had no rights. My college had a dress code in the mid sixties and it was loosened so one did not have to wear jackets and ties any longer. One Physics teacher flunked a kid because he insisted the kid had to wear a jacket and tie so the kid did. Over a bare chest, cutoffs and sneakers. That kid went on to become a Honors Graduate student in Physics.

That entire period was a turning point....

Happy Holidays, those years were much too tumultuous for me to relive tonight.

OT - Sorry...was squided and it would post here, but not on the Systems thread.

These difference sure are odd. I am beginning to think Pat's approach is correct. Go to the exchange and get the most recent stuff and use that...unfortunately that appears a day late.

My data for 12/30 shows 1332 adv and 1401 decl.
The data for 12/30 at the NYSE site shows 1230 adv and 1380 decl.

That is an -81 difference.

Well, it matters little. Right now the trend in the data is up that is clear. That doesn't mean we don't have a nice dip first and then a blast off and it doesn't mean we don't turn on a dime and go the other way either.

As with anything, I think some common sense has to play into the interpretation, unless you simply are going by a hard and fast rule and even GZ doesn't do that.

If you were to incorporate this into a system, then I would imagine the actual numbers would make a difference. But then how can you be sure the numbers you are using are right on for backtesting purposes.

Seems this one indicator may have a few holes in it for systems incorporation.

PS - Happy New Year! I was just squided so I had to post this over here. Can't get it to post on the Systems thread.
