Tim, here's an interesting deal to form a joint venture between TCI and Time Warner. What makes me curious was whether HLIT had done any special work in Houston, but reading your post you mention Dallas.

Should we see a consolidation coming? I was just reading an article which said US Media was a top ten pick for takeover, as was US West. They say Allen is possibly looking at UMG to add to his cable holdings. Has Allen shown any preference for HLIT?

They also talked about poor little Ciena for takeover with a broad range of new competition in DWDM including Fujitsu, Lucent and Nortel. Never a mention of HLIT.

Regards,

Mark

TCI-Time Warner Serve Houston

TCI Communications Inc., the cable arm of Tele-Communications Inc., and Time Warner Entertainment Co. LP this week announced they have formed a joint venture to provide cable service to more than 1 million customers in the Houston area.

The agreement joins TCI's subscriber base and equipment with Time Warner's, creating a 50-50 joint venture that will be managed by Time Warner. The deal transfers $640 million of debt each from Time Warner's and TCI's balance sheets to that of the joint venture, officials said.
