funnel ideas to short sellers

OK, here is the deal. The stocks in the contest appear to be overvalued. Like, significantly overvalued. AMZN's book value is in the neighborhood of 4 bucks, I think. The market cap of the company is higher than the total amount of retail sales of all books in the United States last year. Amazon has figured out a way to cut their overhead by selling over the Internet instead of in bookstores, and they still can't make money, and have made zero since the deal went public. Meantime the stock is selling for over 300 clams and is set to split 3 for 1. And it split once already this year.

This is not Quantum Physics, dude. This is simple math. 4 minus 2 is not equal to 300. Not even friggin' close, dude.

These deals are going to fall. Complaints should be directed to anyone who feels compelled to hold the prices up so as to siphon some dough out of the market prior to The Big Move Down. Get my drift?

BAWK!

Nah, the whole point is to present lots of sound, rational reason to get new shorts to jump in, and then take their money on the next short squeeze :)

If I had to guess, I'd say these stocks will either go up or down within the next timeframe.

James.

Aw, Crossy, c'mon. We're just having fun. While the contest has encouraged a lotta people to come up with interesting ideas, I think Auric'll eventually make up his own mind about what to short, and when.

And of course these stocks are bound to get hit sooner or later. The sooner the better, in my view. The kind of euphoria their recent performance has sparked isn't healthy.

Still haven't given much thought to my own entries. But in the next couple of days... First I gotta check the Mayan calendar.

Tulips, Emus, and Internet Stocks:

You've read about the Tulips.

Emus once were selling for $25,000 a piece, then $25,000 a pair, etc..
Last I heard people were paying to have them killed and properly disposed.

Likewise, it appears that many Internet Stocks are trading on an unattainable promise.

The idea that some could drop 40, 50, 60, 80, 90 percent is not novel. In fact, it appears that many fully expect this phenomena or mania to come to an end; ergo, this contest was born. Seems totally logical to me.

The reason seems intuitive but the timing could be hazardous to longs and shorts alike.

Actually, if you think about it, this contest has been going on unofficially for over 2 1/2 years now (dating at least back to #reply-81744). If short sellers could will these stocks down they'd have done so by now.
