I agree! I could care less who is suing who. I would rather read lawyer jokes!

if it is to an anonymous alias. Jorj X. McKie is a fictional character and anybody could say anything they wanted about JXM and I would not have recourse as there would be no real damage to my "real" good name (which is hopefully lost in the annals of SI history).>>>>

And what about those who know the real identity?

A fictitious example:

X posts under the nick of XYZ
X is an accountant for the movie industry
Many people know the identity of X (maybe even the employer..maybe current clients....maybe future clients, maybe future employers)

A poster who is/was a friend says she knows XYZ is stealing from his employer - the big "E" word.

just one of many examples of actual harm that could be done

Do you know the stigma associated with being "fired" ? What if someone denigrates your reputation and your employability by claiming that they fired you and other misc. claims.

just another example

I dare say that I could come up with a scenario that you would find unacceptable if it were applied to you.

Just because you are posting on the net doesn't mean you can act like it is the wild wild west and say whatever you want with no recourse.
