Hi Don: I am printing your post and will keep it in a folder for a year. Come Jan00, I will use it as a frame of reference as what to do next. I have not thought (or would not think of) your strategy, that's why I appreciate your input as an alternative approach. Thanks for reminding me the Y2K problem. It could be huge or could just be minor problem, nobody knows. When I was a manager of a computer department with an airline, we knew that come 00 we would have a problem to fix. But we said: that's 15 years away. If this program is not obsolete by then, there must be something wrong with the company, afterall we are in a dynamic society. Anybody who would suggest expanding the year field to 4 digits would either be sent to a mental institution or to the unemployment line. The cost would be so huge. How many more disk drives are needed, how many additional employees etc. Many times quick and dirty programs (such as hardcoding Feb29 in a leap year) prevail over programs well written that require no maintenance. That was the era of mainframes and they are still plenty around. Even if the US can fix all the Y2K, how about Russia, how about Asian countries, how about some Latin American countries. Our computers have to shake hands with them. How about Arinc? Our planes are trackedin takeoffs/landings. I understand that it has been fixed, otherwise planes leaving Dec 31 11:00pm will "vanished" from the computer in January. Your caveat is very valid: do not dismiss Y2K at all! One person's prophecy - Dr. Helen Otto, who publishes 3 books on the subject of the end of the earth, taking scriptures and comparing to the recent technological advances and world conflicts - indicates that April 2000 would be the day. But the good book says that even the Son of God does not know when He will return to Earth, so keep the light burning and stay awake. I am also short 18 puts DELL Jan00 55 in addition to my recent trade. I do not know why the premium is still so high at around 7.25/sh. Thaat means those put buyers expect that DELL will be less than 47.75/sh one year from now while it is now selling for 74 1/2. If I do not have currently such high exposure, I think I would back up the truck selling more of that DELL put option. Don't you agree? OT OT OT: During my time with the airline, I often worked late at night to meet dedlines. That is when the crew came in to clean the place. I fondly remember: father, mother, their children and in-laws. They were always singing and humming tunes and have happy kind and friendly loving faces. They said hi to me, so one day night I had a small talk with them and found out that it is a family business: every one helps, and all of them are JW. Everytime I remember that night, I have tears in my eyes: a blessed family. The office was immaculate in the morning! Have a profitable year 1999!! Best regards, Paul
