I am not sure I see what the concern is over the gift cards. Is it a worry over having to carry these as an accrued item rather than crediting them to sales directly? I don't see how they will decrease inventory turns? One advantage I see, although HD doesn't need the cash, is the float as these cards are not all converted in a short time. hence, until they are used, HD can keep the cash working, sort of like American Express Travelers Checks. Should add to the bottom line.
