Joe,

IVAC is the hands down winner in terms of sputter deposition equipment for the newest iterations of thin-film media. Seagate, HMT, Fujitsu, and Showa Denko all use their systems. The notable hold outs are Mitsubishi Chemical, IBM, and Komag. The problems here have been the over capacity which is especially acute in media production. The recovery in disk drives, if it is sustainable, will help these guys a lot IMO but we need to see the supply/demand equation improve from here. IVAC has one of the best management teams in the biz, IMO, and are financially managed very well. I like them for the long haul and believe they will survive well, especially with Fujitsu continuing to expand.

Best,
Stitch

Dear Joe: I will be interested in what you have to say after reading their investor packet. Is there an on-line site to order it?? I was burnt before when the DD industry went down the tubes and am very hesitant to invest in that industry again. Seems to me that once it gets going good too doggone much competition enters. Also, I would like your thoughts as to whether IVAC has the financial muscle to produce in the GMR environment. JDN
