This is an excellent idea. I need to get one of those. All I need is a camera and a scanner!

I have a Problem with Paintings on the Internet. Or any other "print" medium. It's impossible to see the quality of the painting after a certain point.

Here is a perfect comparison. First, one of the most dazzling paintings ever painted; it cannot be fully appreciated unless one sees it in actuality; a professional photograph cannot possibly do it justice, let alone a weak reproduction on a TV screen:

And then we have this lame excuse for a painting done by a loser that couldn't paint worth diddly, but hardly anyone knows it because hardly anyone has ever seen his actual paintings, which blow large chunks.

(The DaVinci is about 20" x 20", the Dali is 14 feet high, the small painting is sublime, the big one is mental masturbation.)

Thirdly, we have this, painted by a Master, but you really can't tell if you don't see the real thing:

We've entered the World of Facsimiles. The People form opinions about painting and painters without ever seeing one single actual real painting in their whole lives. To me, it's like penni or gaugs or Mr. White "compared" to Bazooka bubble gum comics.

And what about the craft, eh? What about that? Spend 3 hours on an eye to get the reflection just like you want it, and be wondering if it will reproduce well. Jeez Moniz.

Picasso didn't think about whether or not his paintings would come out well in a photograph.

Picasso said one time, "Copy other people all you want, but don't copy yourself."

I like Claus Oldenburg's response to a newspaper reporter who axed him one time if he could give a definition for the word "art".

"Art to me is like ornithology to birds."
