Smithsonian to extend 3D images to the web.

In the latest Smithsonian Magazine (Jan 99). There is a discussion of the institution's plans to expand educational programs and individual artifact accessibility in it's natural history museum.

The best part of the article:

"Also in the works is an "Institution-wide" project to make three-dimensional, rotational images of objects in Smithsonian collections-the vast majority of which are natural history artifacts-available on the World Wide Web."

I know Synthonics had mentioned doing this but it's nice to hear it from the source.

Here's to a great 1999
