I also was struck by the efficiency comparison in this statement:

I believe that the dynamics of this are the same as the use of intramuscular jet injection being used to deliver DNA vaccines. DNA vaccines, and other gene therapies, rely on cellular contact for their uptake. In a conventional injection, there is a bubble of medicine left in the body. The only cells to come into contact with the medicine are those right on the margin of the bubble. With jet injection, the medicine is dispersed through tissue immediately upon penetrating the skin, creating a cloud of medicine. I would not be surprised if that cloud causes the medicine to come into contact with a thousand times more cells, although it does seem like a stretch.

It seems to me that preparing an injection by attaching DNA to microscopic gold particles has got to be an expensive prospect. That's why I'm not too concerned about Powderject casting a competitive specter over Bioject.
