Hello, everyone!

I had no idea I'd provoke such an explosion when I started this thread. Really. Thanks and keep the thoughts coming.

BTW, amazing as it may seem, this has become a hot subject.

Cheers!

well, since you all are my friends here, I will share with you a little nook in my wine cellar:
apex-sauna-wine.com

Okay, so I an pulling your corks. I do have a 10x13, but aint the kind to take pictures of it. Kinda like the native americans thought that if their photo was taken, it would steal their spirit.

Doroteo, thanks for the thorough post. I will pick up the conversation when I get some time.

My Doroteo, you have a very similar opinion to my own... as for stem ware I much prefer Reidel...Just fantastic, although I must profess that I for one cannot tell the differance between the hand blown and machine blown in a tasting...looks yes but tasting no...

Wonderful the differances in flavors between the differing glasses and the same wine...In some cases, I prefer the wrong glass for the wine as that is my preferance in taste...

In Cabs we got a case of 79 Sterling 1.5's Reserve ...wonderful...but anything younger is well ...too young...this one was on the cusp, but still wonderful, the young lady tracking the shipment was interseted as to WHO authorized the Library release to us...just a mistake on thier part that I am very happy for ....already have consumed 4 of the 6 bottles...the last 2 will go within the next 2 months...

Later

Preston

Hi, I won't tell Montelena that.<g>

Montelena... this wine reminds me of other two wines... Cakebread Cellars, and Fetzer, gentler wines, but imo in need of keeping

As far as a blend, the Dominus is a blend, so is the Opus One(both have strong, very strong ties to France). Insigna is a blend also, and some I can't recall at the moment. I like the blends for the balance, and earlier accessability. The Cabs. are like a punch in the face if not fully matured and mellowed.

Regarding the boon in prices, the same holds true for a lot of the Califs. that you mention in contrast to the Bordeaux. They are produced on small hill sides, and all the micro climates of Calif. produce many different flavors, unllike a mix of the Bordeaux region.

And as far as glasses go, I agree 100%, no frills, I use clear thin crystal. I have some goblets from Checz. Very ornamental, but I can't enjoy the wine in them.

Reidel is the best. hands down. everyone out there should get some if you truly want to get the most out of your wine(though I don't have a problem drinking out of the bottle if I can't find a glass.. What was that wine? Mad dog 20/20<g>)?

Perhaps... that was the reason Thomas Jefferson was such a brilliant man.

didn't he start the wine cellar at the white house? But I think he was more brlliant for all the gardens and things he grew at Montecello. Cheers!
