didn't he start the wine cellar at the white house? But I think he was more brlliant for all the gardens and things he grew at Montecello. Cheers!

Very probably so... I know he had a superb collection of his own, even dome Chateau d'Yquem, which recently someone reported that a bottle that was 200 + years old, that was in perfect condition....

Thomas Jefferson, no doubt, as he was writing the Constitution and other important documents, he must have been drinking a few glasses of excellent wines.....

Hey! does that mean, that in reality the US was influenced very directly by the French ?

If it was not for the wines..... I would have to agree with Frank Zappa, who said....

"There is no hell..... There is only France" <g>

It is a little late, and I am really tired after a full day, so I will comment more tomorrow.....

Perhaps something about Spanish Sherries or so..... the Solera system perhaps.... which by the way, did you know that the better Scotch (single malt)... example Lagavulen, they are aged in barrels acquired be the distilleries, form the Sherry merchants, and so they add to the flavor of the wiskey.

Does that allow me to say that when I drink Lagavulen... I am drinking a wine ?.... (made in Scotland)... <g>

Later laddie....

I am amazed at the number of posts on this thread! I was only away for a day...

I agree about the glassware - proved it to myself that the Riedel crystal is really terrific and definitely makes a difference in the enjoyment of wine. The Wine Society here is planning a tasting comparing glassware in March. Should be interesting. I am the host.

One Board member of the Society sent me an article from the NY Times that told of the latest thing in New York re glassware. People have started bringing their own glasses to restaurants.
