The only way for any company to get involved with the internet, in any technical way that would pay off, would be to invent a totally new technology that would dramatically increase throughput to levels far above anything available now, including cable modems, T1, ATM, or anything else. There is so much competition in the datacomm/network hardware market now that a company like Emerson wouldn't stand much of a chance trying to introduce yet another line of modems/routers/etc. Perhaps a hyperspace data link where you get tomorrow's email today? : - ) John M.
