Gap.com is doing well. Depends on how the old-line names market themselves. It is becoming a fact that brand dominance doesn't transfer automatically to the Web. Look at Barnes & Noble.

Sure, Barnes and Noble and Wal-Mart are synonomous with bricks and mortar retailing, but even to the new user I'd bet that Amazon equals online bookstore. These new users do have friends who shop at and trust Amazon, they've heard about it in the news, they want to see what this internet thing is all about. Being a leading real world retailer doesn't automatically make you a leading online retailer.
