MGJ: Re: "How many fortunes are made buying stocks at 24xs earnings?"

Not one to date. I have been buying small caps during tax loss selling season. Even UTEK tempted me for a few minutes as all the Brinkerheads sell for a tax loss <g>. I have not bought a large cap since November.

Justa with stock to sell on January 4th. Watch the market crater when Justa sells <g>.

Ralph says we are going to 11,500 possibly. Stay tuned because he might be a seller tomorrow with a new forecast.

Looking forward to Bob's rationale if he ups his targets as don predicts. Thanks to dono for the heads up.

Thanks to all who make this a fun place to hang.

MrGreenJeans,re:p/e as an indicator

I would agree but while I haven't checked the numbers I suspect excessive bullish sentiment of 70% would usually occur when valuation is stretched because of all the technicians in the survey who are following the trend and couldn't care a bunny rabbit's tail about valuation. So while we may lose valuation and sentiment I think Bob's model which I think respects the long term trend and is tilted a bit to the long side is unlikely to go bearish as long as as the Fed remains friendly, the money supply spigot remains open and the economy remains without visible recession or overheating. I guess from there it just depends how cautious or defensive you want to be

Marc

The world may not end in l999 despite the hype over
UFO's and Y2K.
If it does not, the S & P 500 Index will still be around
in year 2000. And earnings could tack on a neat gain
in year 2000 which investors could be expected to
begin discounting at l999 progresses. Lets see,
if we put a big fat multiple on a nice earnings gain
into year 2000 we get another nice runup in stock prices
going forward so long as interest rates behave themselves.
Cannot wait to see if Marketimer discusses this scenario
in the January issue due to be mailed next week. But I will wait
of course.
