I agree about the fine medical facilities at UAB. One of my cousins got his MD from there. What a lot of people don't know is the heart center there is tops in the world. Between them and here in Houston they have the best heart-by-pass surgery records in the field.
I'm not familiar with any companies in B'ham working in the medical area. Several stocks that I have an interest have drug trials going on at UAB but none of the companies are located there.

If you follow my posting here on SI, you will note I have a keen interest in biotechs. I think in the near future many of them will finally bring drugs to the market. It has been a long process, but it takes time to go through the FDA hurdles, but the time is here for some of them.

I would suggest you look closely at the following stocks in the biotech area:

LGND, XOMA, CLTRX, BONZ, GLGC, IMCL. You might read my last post on BONZ here on SI to start your DD. XOMA is a real crap shoot, but the drug they are working on, if it works and this will be know in the next few months....it will be a big money maker for them.

I'm pleased that the steel industry and jobs are coming back. For too long we have allowed the imports to take over and this must stop for such a vital industry.
