The established media also propagated that story.

Bill Vaughn and DMA, actually, what I recall with Drudge and this comet collide retraction etc. is that the established media did not cover the story. What the established media did cover, was Drudges coverage of the story. This is becoming quite common I notice... where the enquirer will cover a story, and established news will cover the coverage - thus allowing them to keep their hands clean.

On this comet story, Drudge reported gossip as he always does with no substantiation. The established news then 1) Covered the fact that Drudge reported this and said "we are looking into the matter" and later, 2) Covered the fact that Drudge reported this and reported that it was a hoax with facts and interviews to back it up. This is entirely different in my mind than saying "the established media also propogated the story".

My point is Drudge to me is no different than the Enquirer in terms of the way he operates. Remember the Enquirer has also been right, as Drudge has been right. But you never know because he just reports any old blather he gets. The real difference is that Drudge sort of promotes himself like a mainstream news guy, with his links to the real news on his site, and also he reports on any type of gossip be it real news etc where the enquirer only touches tittilating sexual innuendo kind of stuff.
