*** Contest Results: Nesmith Family ***

>>>
Does anyone know what Michael Nesmith's family is really famous for? HINT: I think it dwarfs the Monkee's fame and fortune.

PRIZE: Ralphie the Bearskin Rug and Mary Kay spring color collection.
>>>

Wow! I thought this might stump some threaders. I guess not. Again, this demonstrates the knowledge present on this thread.

The ANSWER:

Michael Nesmith's mom, Betty, worked as an executive secretary to support Michael. Betty was divorced. Betty called her company Mistake Out.

The story goes something like this....one evening Betty was in her kitchen and was thinking about how she could correct mistakes in typing. She decided to mix up a white liquid mixture to "white out" her mistakes. Betty was an artist so she recalled that artists corrected their mistakes by painting over them with white paint. She tried this and it lead to the creation of Mistake Out.

Betty was working for IBM but was completely dedicated to her new company. She worked most of her evenings trying to build up revenues for Mistake Out. One day while working at IBM she typed a document for her boss with the name Mistake Out Company instead of IBM. Her boss fired her right then.

The good news is that Betty turned out fine. Her company grew and eventually supplied typewriter ribbons too. Gillette purchased her company at one point. At her death, Betty left an estimated $25 million to her son Michael, who achieved world wide fame as one of The Monkees.

The WINNERS:
Noah Tee
Bill Sheperd

We will send out prizes to both Noah and Bill. Noah responded at 4:03 and Bill at 4:05.

I will FEDEX your Ralphie the bear skin rugs and the Mary Kay Spring color collection on Monday.

Enclosed you will find a contract which you must sign. This Spring color collection is being given to you 3 months ahead of normal catalog distribution. The contract says that you agree not to let anyone use these fantastic colors and that you will tell all who inquire the only place to order the colors is Mary Kay.

BTW, if that doesn't entice them to buy tell them the makeup is specially formulated and acts as an aphrodesiac. HA!
