It looks like those in for 2-3 years do most of the posting. I rarely see trial members, if they still have such things. I know there are lots of students who visit free for research and paper writing. I am not sure what privileges are. But the best thing is no advertising forced on paying customers. SI is a island of tranquillity in a raging sea of commercialism. Soon, no doubt, there will be the sounds of colly birds and vast fields of orange poppies sweeping down the valley -- maybe "live." A "Frosty Malted" "Orange Julius", or a comfortable mock-Swiss cafe would not be too annoying (there would be beer!). There, next to that rattling stand of aspen ----

I personally think the barrier to entry represented by the fee is a very good thing which makes SI unique among online message boards... uniquely worthwhile as a source of informed, if not objective, information
