Maybe, sort of, for South Seas, but by the '29 crash it was minutes. They laid a cable plus there was that funny box called radio. And it has been quite awhile since "months" to cross the Atlantic. Them clipper ships, one of my favs, could really haul ass. Give me a tall ship and a star to steer by ......

This time it's different. In 1929, Joe Bathtubgin's boss got wiped out in the stock market, and soon Joe was laid off. This time, Joe Sixpack gets wiped out in the market, and soon Joe gets laid off.

There was a global crash in the mid-1800s which was synchronized almost to the hour, at a time when there was no direct communication. Also, the markets were jumping around just as fast as now. This notion that markets move faster now is one of the biggest myths around.
