i agree with that myth about speed of markets. dutch tulipmania was accompanied by very active spot, futures, and options markets.

I think I read about that on the Elliott Wave site. However, I believe that there was the telegraph back then. Sorry, I hate to be elitist, but I have a hard time trusting research by Elliott Wavers, Kondriateff wavers, or any other waver. It's mumbo-jumbo. No offense, I hope. You are a scientist, it is natural for you to find the concept of applying math to human behavior attractive, but it is simply impossible.
