E.Davies, great post. Please give this some thought, and come back with a migration plan to your ten-year scenario. Say, every two years or so, giving us four or five steps, if that's possible. Do you have any milestones in mind? For example, at what point does ahhaha's "pure" optical kick in? Will it be a reality in ten years?

The new economics... at what point is backwards compatibility more expensive than going forward with all new? Just some questions to ponder...
