Hi DLL, Please feel welcome here at the BB. I agree that it's one of the best sites on SI - well, I started it, so how else should I feel!! :-)

BETA ratings seem to range all over the place. You will need to pick a source that you trust and then stick with it. What you want is consistency in this item. If it's too short a period where the measurement is being taken, the BETA can vary quite a bit month by month.

I use the paper version of Value Line from the local library. Their method of calculation is described in their booklet that comes with the subscription. Since the Library has this stuff, I don't subscribe myself. Periodically I'll get a "trial subscription" to their CD ROM version, (like once every 2-3 years) and use it for stock searches and new ideas.

S&P uses a relatively stabile BETA calculation as well. I think they are almost interchangible with V/L's. On the internet you will find many sources, but try to find out the basis of their calculation and compare it to V/L's as a basis.

Anybody else have a good source of BETA ratings?

Best regards, Tom
