*OT*

Some good tips, Michael. I have the utmost admiration for people who successfully (or even unsuccessfully!) quit smoking.

For me, I don't think the nicotine addiction is the biggest problem, but rather the 'habit' of smoking. I've tried toothpicks and unlit cigarettes with limited success. I have gone down to the lightest cigarettes I can find, and could probably be happy smoking cigarettes a tenth as strong as the 'lightest' currently available.

I haven't tried to quit in some time, but with cigarette prices steadily increasing, I imagine I'll have to give it another try soon.

Rose

This time of year there seems to be an endless supply of suggestions about quitting smoking.

Here're a couple things to consider, items I haven't seen mentioned yet:
YOU MUST REALLY WANT TO QUIT !!!

THE NEW EX-SMOKER MUST CONVINCE HIMSELF/HERSELF OF THAT FACT.
IT MAY HURT FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT SO WHAT?
IF YOU DO IT RIGHT, YOU'LL ONLY DO IT ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

Michael,

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. I'm on day 4 without a cigarette. And doing okay. Arrrggh!

I've upped my exercise level (shovelling snow all weekend helped). I cleaned out and put my ashtrays away. I gave my lighters away. Got rid of all my matches (except a couple packs by the stove.)

Just got a lot of nervous energy. I bought a lot of gum, grapes, and carrot sticks. And I'm nibbling on them to keep my mouth busy.

Regards
