All,

Depends on the model. Viewsonic makes every price range of monitor from Cheap to Professional. I only have experience with their P series high end displays. The PT813 has the best performance at 1600x1200 I have ever seen.

When I looked at a Viewsonic P815 next to a bunch of others in a retail setup it did not compare very well. IMO the problem is the video cards and the connections. Higher end monitors do better with higher end video cards.

I opted for the Viewsonic P815 and it looks good on my Matrox MII PCI.

I can't add to what Sean and ZP told you. They summed up the Catch 22 of pre-viewing monitor purchases in stores. You're best to do it for the exact model and vid card you intend to use yourself which is next to impossible to find at the store. I have found the most help here to be from people who have experienced this specific card & monitor combination and have been thoughtful enough to report back
