You are correct that the wording was softer but 9 to me is clearly "many"--especially when you consider it represents about 16% of the Republican Senators.

I will keep my eyes open for more and will post if I find.

One final thought. If this were a more traditional trial, each of those Senators would be tossed off of a jury for ANY comments they have made that would indicate they were leaning in one direction or another. With that in mind there would probably be no jury.
