>>I do not see how they [feminists] can logically square Clinton's
behavior with their beliefs- they probably don't even try.<<

X,

I agree -- they probably don't try.

Watching congress debate the articles of impeachment, I was struck by how many referred to the "judgment of history" in these matters.

The democrats warned of republicans being judged by history as on a sexual witch hunt for political gain, and republicans countered that they are defending the integrity of the constitution and the rule of law. (to oversimplify and generalize)

I humbly suggest that history will judge this whole debacle in the larger context of changing social mores. This is a battle of the moral relativists (democrats) and the moral absolutists (rep's). Republicans are sick of what they see as the moral decay of America (man, I sound like a cliche machine) and to many of them Clinton represents a man with abundant charm and intelligence but little integrity who has become a symbol for this decline.

Are they self rightious? Absolutely. Are they hypocritical? Some of them. But I believe they have a strong argument for his removal.

History will, I hope, see that the Republicans were overly zealous at times but were sincere in their motivations, by and large. And I hope history will show how many democrats (ie feminists) sacrificed their principles to defend Clinton.

BTW, I happen to be Canadian and I likely would have voted for Clinton both times (at the time, not in hindsight) based on his progressive policies.

Just my opinion.

Regards,
