Constellations -- God did not make the Constellations, man did, and they have changed position and shape since the Egyptians and Babylonians first mapped them. There is no "fixed point" in the heavens. Everything is rushing away from everywhere else. "There is no there", as Gertrude Stein said of Los Angeles. Orion's belt was made by our power to project an image on the heavens, like the Chief of Police in Batman. When I was a child, I could see the dotted lines that outlined the constellations in the night sky. When I flew over the west, and could see the borders marked on the land -- even through Lake Tahoe. Polaris is not only our pole star, but is a pole star only intermittently. Years ago Vega was our pole star, and a much prettier one that Polaris IMO.
