My GUESS is it has to do with where the fan gets it power.
Two wires coming off the cpu fan go to mb. I'll inquire more on the aopen newsgroups if my ISP can ever make them available. But thats another discussion.

What does the BIOS say. If it says it moving load the motherboard monitor instead and see if that works...

I was hoping for a way to keep NT partition formatted NTFS and also put DI on the same drive. Would an additional, partition after NTs NTFS, be possible formatted FAT? Or do all partitions on a drive need to have the same formatting?

A FAT partition after the NTFS partition is possible. There is no need to have all partitions on the same drive the same format.

So to have DI on the same drive as NT.....
1. NT would have to be FAT.....
NO... and
2. DOS would also have be on the same drive??

And set to boot..ie you would not boot NT.

Same physical drive as NT? Yes it can reside on the same physical drive as NT. I do not not think it will accomplish your intent. To have Drive Image on the same physical drive it would have to be in a separate FAT partition (or in an NT FAT partition). The question is how would you execute Drive Image?? You would not be able to execute Drive Image from NT. It is not an NT executable program. So if you had Drive Image on the same physical drive as NT it would have to be accessed from something other than NT. In other words you would not be able to boot to your standard operating environment (NT) and execute Drive Image. Parking Drive Image in a FAT NT partition is possible but makes no sense...at least not in terms of what I believe you are trying to accomplish.

We are all in agreement here.

Would a Drive Image of Drive Image work there ?

I am not sure what you mean. I will ramble on a little here. DO NOT do anything with your existing setup until we get Spot's approval<g>

There seems to be two systems to protect. The Primary NT installation protected with the KOT Drive with the Drive Image restore NT mechanism.

The second is the KOT/utility drive. What if that screws up? How is it restored? without resorting to reinstallations of the OS? I am not saying that reinstalling an OS is a bad thing. It is always an option and one should know how to do it. I am saying you should make a clone of the two existing working operating systems now on your machine.

I may differ a little with Spots here? Since you have a new machine I do not see data backup to be an issue. I do feel it is important to make a Drive Image of both of your OSes as soon as you feel comfortable with Drive Image.

Making a Drive Image of NT is the most straight forward. It only requires installing Drive Image to Win98..then executing it and then creating a Drive Image of the NT drive. You would select the NT Drive to backup and you would select the Win98 drive for the location of the NT image file. There is no need alter or create any of your existing partitions.

Creating a Drive Image of the Win98/utility/KOT drive may prove a little more logistically challenging. I think this is the root of your Drive Image of Drive Image question. Or my question..how does one restore the KOT?

Nothing like a drive along the coast to help put the pieces together. I thought of this on the way to work this morning. Still a new idea so we probably need a STWWP (Spots Two Week Waiting Period) restriction on this.

Partition Magic is now a resident NT installation. You can clone with Partition Magic. With Partition Magic installed in your primary OS (NT) you can copy the Win98 partition to the end of the NT drive from the NT environment..ie create a backup of the KOT drive on the NT drive that is accessible for restore from the NT installation. If the KOT failed you would boot in the normal fashion to NT..then execute Partition Magic from NT and then clone the KOT clone back to the KOT drive.

Caveat..I have never used PM 4 in NT. The above based on my current understanding and subject to revision upon scrutiny. STWWP in effect.

I just thought the convenience of having DI available in my primary OS (NT) without having to reboot into w98 (or now DOS) would be good.

Agreed..but wishful thinking at the moment.

If PM is now native to NT I would hope DI would also be (native to NT) in the future.

Agree here too. If they can do it with Partition Magic one would think Drive Image will soon follow.
