I agree that the valuation of AMZN, YHOO, et al. is a speculative orgy. What I like about being able to point to AMZN and YHOO, and all that, is that it makes stocks with real earnings like CSCO and LU and IBM look modestly valued in comparison.

I find it hard to imagine a scenario in which people like my sister, the nurse, who has been long KO, MSFT and INTC for years, panics and liquidates her 401K. She didn't turn a hair this summer, or this October, she barely noticed it. My friend, the Juvenile Court judge, who only invests in Vanguard mutual funds, primarily the one that tracks the S&P 500, just laughed about all the people who were panic-selling. My friend, the prosecutor, used it as a buying opportunity.

Maybe they are all fiddling while Rome burns.
