Wily,

You are right...but that is not what I am talking about. 64mb chips were needed to make 64mbyte modules. You could not configure 64mbyte modules with 16mbit chips. The maximum size with 16mbit chips is only 32mbytes. That is why the 64mbit chips started to sell b/c 64mbyte systems were in demand with the advent of the Pentium II systems. As demand for 64mbit chips increased then crossover finally occurred.

It was a good observation that you made and shows that you are thinking.

Good Luck

wiley, you are correct. pricing for 16 mb chips is around $3 and 64 mb chips below $10. so, you can buy 4 for $3 for a total of $12 (if david is your purchasing manager ;-) or you can buy one for $10.

what are you gonna do?

the exact same case will arise between 64 mb and 256 mb in 12-18 months. either mu is making 256 mb parts are they are out b/c their cost basis will be WAY to HIGH to compete.
