Ok, am I missing something??? Indeed dear Lucky you are missing something. I see that you are having great difficulty figuring this out. So here in this passage from Act III, Scene 4 of Hamlet is its use. Used in this context and in my context cited by you last evening, it crudely means to be blown up (hoisted) by one's own explosive (petard). I'll leave it to you to back track and re-read my post with your new found insight. ok guys... I tracked this conversation back... I really missed out on some wild times last night..... as jhild stated... Before you walk out too far on that plank, let me suggest that you consult a dictionary. You are alluding to an improper use on my part which isn't supported by a careful reading of the definitions. Lest you be hoisted with your own petard, I suggest you begin back tracking and await a more favorable opportunity to attempt to denigrate me.#reply-7109386 looking up in a REAL dictionary (which I've learned to keep within reach when ever jhild's around).... the word PETARD... and you get his EXACT usage...."hoist by or with one's own petard" meaning...... caught in your own trap...... now, if you re-read the passage.. it makes sense...
