When we get the next correction, the first stocks sold by the institutions that dominate today's market will be whatever big caps that they have a profit in. P/E will be only coincidental.
Retailing is on the verge of a painful impact with the reality of widespread www consumer buying. By using the www, consumers can get cheap prices (and instant price comparisons) and save on sales tax too. Only the most efficient and clever companies will survive. Home Depot is in much better shape in this revolution than other companies. It's products are often heavy or bulky or needed quickly. I can't imagine that many people will try to buy a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood over the www.
