QLGC may be overpriced, but if there are really 9 million shares out there at $135, their market cap is 1.2 bil, vs. about 20 bil for ADPT. If they really do have the next generation technology we don't, what's wrong with a stock buy-out, or even some cash and stock? Maybe wait a bit for the price to come down closer to reality? Hmmm.

Jim: It looks like we may have arrived at the breakout point for the stock. I have been sensing accumulation over the past several weeks, when the price leveled out. On Monday, I actually added (not enough, in hindsight) to my holdings. This kind of "surprise" announcement, about which you wondered a couple of weeks ago and which I would not deign to predict, probably will not be viewed as a fluke. Thus, I think the market will react very positively.

Earnings results apparently were as difficult to predict this January as they were a year ago. Who could really know the impact of the vast changes initiated by Boucher and his crew? Some of us sensed that he had it right, but having been thrice stung, few of us were willing to venture into the foggy realm of wishful thinking that prevailed on this thread prior to several earnings reports last year.

As a long term investor, I send my appreciation to Adaptec management and workers for a job well done.
