Tony,

<< Not exactly as he says. It was decided to spell it fibre so as to imply that the interconnect medium did not have to be fiber optics (copper can be used as well). >>

I believe 'Fibre' is simply the French way of saying 'Fiber'. That's all I heard once and a long time ago. I remember going to Gignet down in San Jose last year (?) and some guy from StorageTek made a joke about how he was a little bitter about people getting more interested in FC over HIPPI, because he said that after all, Hippi used fiber (better?) and was a channel while with Fibre Channel, you can use copper and it can be a network (and i/o channel). I didn't laugh at all. maybe it was the way he said it. ;-))

take a look at Ancr...just signed a deal with SGI. starting to move too. may i warn you to be very careful though. I mentioned this awhile ago to Paul E. and it preceded to tank afterwards and luckily i didn't lose faith and picked up shares much cheaper than i ever dreamed. they make FC switches and they are the only public company doing so. look for gadzoox, brocade, and vixel to be 'hot' FC companies going public sometime in the next year, imho. Fibre Channel is why I used to ask you those Escon director questions. I think it will be big. EMC is perhaps the BEST positioned company out there for the move to SANS (=FC). You've seen Emulex and Qlogic stocks? How does the evolution in new networks go?...thats right, adapter cards, hubs, then switches... ;-))

all imho, of course
