Jim! Good gravy, I never thought I see you use the YippeeIO slogan(?) of the OLD Adaptec of last July (I think I first saw that written in the FY98 annual report.) Today's report must have addled your brain.

I agree with your assessment. This news wasn't factored into the stock price, as far as I can tell. The price has held fairly steady for over 6 weeks, trading in the 16-19 range. We surely would have seen a runup. Adaptec's release of the good news was a friendly gesture to us average investors, who aren't privy to corporate insiders or leaks. If it had held onto the news until 25 January, there probably would have been leaks and the institutions would have started buying and pushing up the price of the stock several days ahead of the announcement. (Am I being too cynical?)

What surprised me most about the announcement was the news: "strong initial shipments of its 64-bit RAID product" as one of the three principal factors in the good earnings results. The press release said the product wouldn't ship until this month. That suggests there were substantial advance orders from OEMs last quarter and that the product must be pretty good.

Life is good.
