Jim,

<<Would you be thinking about cashing in QLGC profits and picking up some cheap ADPT? I would.>>

I think what you are saying makes a good deal of sense; it is a rational, logical decision-making process.

Unfortunately, the PortMgrs who still own QLGC at these prices (esp. in their tax irrelevant world) either have been brainwashed by QLGC's management or have severe neurological disorders -- or some combination of the two. Thus, your logic falls like a tree in an abandoned forest ...

I hope you bought this one at good prices ... I know most of the idiots who sold it to you there (my old shop)!

Jim: Re. "suppose you were an institutional investor . . . Would you be thinking about cashing in QLGC profits and picking up some cheap ADPT?" Locking in the QLGC profits would be tempting, but that would be after a careful assessment of QLGC's ability to continue its high performance. I'd probably sell something else and buy Adaptec right now.

Earnings estimates (from Zacks and S&P) before the pre-announcement:

Zacks statistics: Strong Buy-2; Moderate Buy-3; Hold-3 (plus Zacks' hold); Avg Rec: 2.1; Consensus Est: 0.12; Inst Ownership: 60.62 percent; P/E-25.8

S&P estimates: Hold; Fair Value: 26.5; Rel Strength: 75

Be interesting to see how they change over the next couple of weeks.
