difference between a boxed and an oem processor,

An Intel boxed processor is the retail version and comes in a box. The warranty is through Intel (3 yrs ?). The warranty for an OEM is through the retailer..usually about a year. The Boxed versions come with a fan..the oem does not.

I concur with Zeuspaul. I do believe the warranty is 3 years. The fan on the Boxed retail version has always been very acceptable for me, not even a hint of overheating in any of the many systems I have put together.
Even though some have said that an OEM and a boxed processor are different, everything I have read says that they are identical, and in using both varieties, I also believe that there is no difference.
Usually the boxed is a better deal by the time you have to add on a decent fan with a OEM version.

Good Luck
Dan
