OK Larry, I'll bite.

I agree, no customers have had production samples, but we can agree that they have had hand assembled batteries to test, to play with in the lab, to dream up products with. Can we agree to this. Can we agree that 3Com might have had hand assembled batteries, and that based on this, they designed a number of prototypes, one if the battery could be produced, one in the event VLNC could not produce the battery, this makes sense. Let's keep going with this. And so 3Com likes the battery, it helps their design, and they give the appropriate feedback to VLNC, give us production samples that meet our specs and we will go with you on one product in Europe. Smaller market, they won't screw the huge US market, they will be close to the production site, for whatever advantage this might be, can you work with me on this? PLEASE.

I'll tell you what, give me a tentative yes, conditioned on you sleeping on it. Get Zeev to come on back, I miss him. I'll ask Johnson and FMK to show a little respect and not call other people names, maybe we'll get a close around 8 1/4 - 83/8, and I'll watch AMZN go up another 10%.

Lets go for it.

Jeff

Larry, You have been repeatedly reminded that the S3 was written prior to Dec 21 and full of disclaimers. As Mooter suggests, why can't you find some information other that s3's etc that were filed for SEC purposes and not for status updates. Again, who do you think has more capacity in place capable of supplying 3Com's needs?

Or as Paul suggests, maybe you can convince us that it is impossible that 3Com will be using Li-solid polymer because disclaimers in all the possible supplier's s3's warn that working production samples may not have been shipped.

Lets talk about Henderson capability.

You wrote:When you refer to samples 3Comm may have received from VLNC "a year ago," you are presumably referring to hand-made prototypes from Nevada?

As you recall, the VLNC S-3 dated 12/21/98 states that "no such production samples have been provided to any OEM."

According to last May and June conference calls, the coating and laminating equipment in Henderson is identical to the equipment in NI. In fact, it was shipped from NI to Henderson. It is automatic, and capable of producing a large amount of laminate. However, they likely don't run for very long at a time in Henderson, because of the amount of material it makes.

The assembly (cut and paste) equipment in Henderson are likely similar to NI equipment, just smaller and capacity constrained. And probably human operated.

Final packaging etc, is likely done by hand.

I don't see any reason why the batteries produced from this process won't be suitable for test and design purposes.

Finally, Ultralife first indicated the availablity of batteries from their line in October, and first revealed production samples from this line were given to customers in the December annual meeting. Since Valence is shipping batteries from NI in earnest, then there is only about 8-10 weeks difference in production sampling (at most) between the two. I can't see how this difference is all that meaningful, especially considering Valence's much larger production capacity.

Since Ultralife has never really discussed the possibility of other battery sizes, and has concentrated on their cellphone size in press releases and announcements, the possibility that they are providing the Palm batteries is surprising. I think its a long shot that either Ultralife or TNB could be providing the Palm batteries, which leaves me with Valence, even though you don't like it.
