John, I like the Palm Pilot. I had one and left in taxi cab in Philly. Called the cab company and asked if they would return it if found and I would pay the cab fare and $25. I never saw it. I bet the next passenger picked it up and thought they had a great new toy. Only problem is they would need the software to reload it though once the batteries were dead. I am seeing more and more of these in my company. I would love to have a smaller one. Even better if it had a Valence battery.

I don't believe that the Palm uses Valence batteries.

3Com said that the battery was part of the casing. I don't recall any mention of Valence cells being used in that manner yet.If they had in fact sent samples to 3Com to be used in PDAs, then I'm sure Lev would have mentioned it. Again, he said no samples had been sent.

ULBI stock is also up today. UBLIers are also wondering, who is it ? The other Li-P manufacturers are ahead of the game with lesser technology and one of them is the most likely candidate.

Just as with the analyst visit, the stock will go up. Everyone will find out its not VLNC and then it will drop. I predict back down to 6.5 in 10 days.

This does not mean VLNC is not doing anything. I expect the first contract will be in laptops, not PDAs, and it will come April 15th.
Until then, don't listen to all the hypesters on this board who have not been able to predict the first order for the last 2 years.

Palms at MacWorld

The 3COM booth at MacWorld was -very- crowded, surpassed only by people lusting after the new modular iMacs at the Apple booth. A 3COM rep said they have authorized 2 companies to develop integrated cell phones/email recievers/PDAs (he didn't name names). The Palm 3s already do an amazing number of things. They're going to sell a zillion of them (I bought one on the spot). If the next generation Palms, as well as other PDAs when other companies jump on the bandwagon, use li-poly batteries, the demand for batteries will be huge.
