Marty, I would consider 5 funds about the minimum for a diversified CEF list. They would be general and regional funds, by definition. Here is a list of 5 I would consider a good diversified list:

1. Adams Express (ADX), a conservative domestic fund.
2. Scudder New Europe (NEF).
3. Latin Discovery (LDF).
4. Morgan Stanley Africa (AFF).
5. Scudder New Asia (SAF).

I do not currently own some of these funds as I own more individual countries because I have a list that is much longer than the minimum.

In general, I don't like Latin America and sold my very successful short term holding of Mexico Fund a few months ago. However, I still own Chile for several reasons: it is dirt cheap, I like resource stocks, the country has its fiscal house in order, and this is a well managed fund. There is no doubt that we will not see big gains in this one until commodities have some sort of bounce, but I'm willing to buy for pennies on the dollar and wait. I am not as convinced that Brazil or Argentina are really going to behave reasonably. After all, they read Alan Greenspan's crap. <G>
