Where is My Modem, Damnit!

This one flew over everyone's heads. Though an internal modem will always be a
buy to order (BTO) option, Apple did not ship a single retail configuration of the
new Pro Models with an internal modem. What makes things worse, is they didn't
make third parties aware of the USB/No Serial situation on the new Pro Systems.
"Apple didn't tell us anything," a representative from Global Village protested,
"they kept it a big secret. If they would have told us about the situation on the
new Power Macs, we would have had our USB modem ready for them."

The USB modems from Global Village, that we reported to you about before the
show started, will not ship until early summer. "You know, that's Steve Jobs. All
a big secret. I used to work for Apple and all they think is network, network.
Their on a huge network there, everything they do is over the network.
Sometimes they just forget about the home user."

Exhibitors at the Apple booth claim that US Robotics produces USB modems, but
they could not confirm or deny whether the Mac drivers are actually available
and shipping. Further more, US Robotics isn't even in attendance at the expo.
"Uhh, I don't know... Yes, that could be a problem, that could be a problem," a
ComputerTown salesmen stuttered. Currently ComputerTown are the only
retailers on the show floor to have the new Pro Models in stock. Intelligently
they ordered more of the Zip Drive configurations than any other.
