There have been several nice gold stock moves since 1987. The best of which was '92-93' (about '64 to 150' on the XAU after it was perceived that AG had over-stimulated.
When AG started hiking in '94, gold stocks retraced, right with the rest of the market. Since then AG has been slow to ease and been helped by Asia and other disinflationary perceptions. When Asia starts to recover in earnest it's Katie bar the door for gold stocks (up). Unfortunately, only the chartists will see it coming because it will lead the fact by 6 months.
