I don't know whether to be more surprised that it happened or that the story came out. I recall reading how, when the "inspectors" went to "search" some of the "palaces" etc. for weapons of mass destruction, they also took particular care to "measure the building," "measure it in relation to surrounding buildings", and they had a helicopter on call to take photocgraghs from the air. Would you mind greatly, my good fellow, if we just painted a big florescent bull's eye on the roof and installed a homing device for cruise missiles?
Could you point the way to the Baith Party headquarters? We think that there might be a scud missile in the closet.
Now I for one just can't understand why Saddam would not co-operate with the inspections as requested.
What a way to make friends and influence people. This just gives credibility to the Bin Ladens, etc. and everything that they accuse the West of.
Maybe that explains the rise in the price of gold. Nothing like instability, conflict and distrust to increase the value of gold or rather decrease the credibility of printed paper.
