RH,

Interesting that you should mention Atlas Shrugged. As I was up early today thinking about the implications and appropriate preparations for Y2k, that title passed through my mind. But it came through as Geeks Shrugged.

As it has evolved to describe programmers, I have always thought the term "Geeks" too disrespectful of a class of thinkers that I deeply admire, for in the service economy, they have become the facilitators of production.

If the programmers shrug off Y2K remediation, because it is too vast, or time is too short [356 days], or because they feel woefully underappreciated/underpaid for supporting the weight of this new world on their shoulders...then the Millennium time bomb WILL explode, and even with our gold we'll face extreme difficulty with a side order of misery.

Richard - I fell asleep in front of the TV last night and woke up as Abbey Cohen was speaking on the repeat version of Wall Street Week. So persuasive about this bull market and the US economy, the words come out rapid fire - even in answer to questions from the panel - almost as if they were recorded. She is extremely persuasive - I thought 'how can she possibly be wrong?' Most of the panel were almost drooling in their pleasure at her words. She is, after all, the high priestess of this bull - and who can gainsay her? People are getting creamed shorting this market. It's like standing in the way of a freight train - just look at Amazon.com, and Yahoo yesterday - and it's the same day after day. It's hard to know what will end it. E

Richard,

<<If one wishes to learn all about money and gold Atlas Shrugged is
required reading:>>

The powers that be want cash to disappear .. that is their ultimate goal - that would give them complete control; e-cash would be easy to trace and monitor. But that will not happen until gold is gone - the ultimate hard currency.

If you want to give up your freedom, then give up on gold ..... I am not going to do that ... I know most on this thread will not either.
